My Left Hand is Useless

Joe and I have taken several classes together (some basic obedience to pass his Canine Good Citizen’s test and a tricks class to get his AKC Novice Trick Dog title). Recently we started taking a competition obedience class and all I can say is wow. Pet obedience and competition obedience are VERY different!

We’ve been working hard on mastering the basic skills, one of which is heeling. I’ll be honest, I have a much harder time mastering these skills than Joe… and I’ve come to realize that my left hand is downright clumsy (I’m right handed). Having to hold the leash and treats in my left hard is much harder than I thought it would be. Also, teaching Joe that I want him on my left after a lifetime of asking him to be on my right was confusing for him. He’s made the switch to the left without too much fuss while I, on the other hand (no pun intended), am still struggling with dexterity in my left hand.

Here’s a little sneak peak at what we’ve been up to!
